So today we talk about , what is footprinting ?
Footprinting :- Footprinting is a part of Reconnaissance. If you don't know what is Reconnaissance so you can read my previous post.
"Footpring is a first that done by hackers in a way to hack someone . In this step attacker collect information about victim."
Now question is which type of information attackers collect ?
Attacker collect each and every type of data.
For example :- you want to hack your friend fb account. Your friend fb account pasword is his cat name + 123 . So when you do footprinting then you need to know about his cat.
Terminologies of Footprinting :-
☆ Active Footprinting :- in active footprinting attacker collect information directly. Through His social engineering skills.
☆ Passive Footprinting : - in passive information attacker collect information through public sources (indirectly)
☆ Pseudonymous Footprinting :- Collect information through online sources about target that is shared by posting with an Assumed Name/Pen name (pseudonymous).
☆ Internet Footprinting :- in internet Footprinting attacker collect information through Search Engines.
Let's Do a Practical :-

In every site there is an option for "Contact us". I click on that option and here i find victim fb account.i click on facebook account link.
in my victim account, I found his number ,his mail and other websites of my victim. So that mean i found very much info about victim.
This is a Passive Footprinting.
If i chat with victim friend and know more about victim then this is a active footprinting.
Lets move on Pseudonymous Footprinting:-
My target using pen name(haxkd) for his blog. Haxkd is a Pen Name of my victim.Many writers use pen name for his bloggers. Remember one thing writers can use one or more than one pen names. Now i have to collect information from his pen name also.
So now talk about last terminologies " Internet Footprinting"
So i use search engines for internet footprinting. I give you internet footprinting tutorial in next post.
